CityTRAQ: together for better local air quality
Within the LIFE CityTRAQ project, we are working together towards a future with cleaner air. The goal is clear: better air quality for our cities. With six dedicated partners on board, we bring together traffic counts and air quality measurements to not only detect and measure air pollution, but also to understand the effects of our mobility choices.
4 cities start pilot projects
Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges and Zagreb (Croatia) are taking the lead with several pilot projects. The cities are deploying sensor technology and will test the screening and scenario tool to analyse and simulate the impact of mobility measures on air quality.
- City of Bruges evaluates air quality throughout the city
- City of Ghent measures the impact of school streets and evaluates circulation plans
- City of Antwerp focuses on urban logistics and heavy traffic
- Zagreb, Croatia, will launch air quality projects based on lessons learned in Flanders
Development of a screening and scenario tool
Within the project, a screening and scenario tool are being developed, which focus on both mobility and air quality. These tools help local governments to develop measures to improve local air quality and thus create a better living environment for the residents.
The screening tool helps policy makers to identify locations with poor air quality (hotspots).
The scenario tool helps local authorities to simulate the impact of a specific measure, such as planning a car-free street, on air quality.
