Use sustainable means of transport for your own trips

Sustainable moving makes a positive contribution to your surroundings, the environment and the climate. Often it is also good for your health!
Use sustainable means of transport for your own trips

You tackle the following challenges:

How do I encourage sustainable travel
How do I choose a greener fleet

That's how you do it

Opt as much as possible for sustainable means of transport, such as cycling, public transport or car sharing. In this way, your traffic emissions decrease, which is good for air quality, the climate and your health.

For citizens:

  • If possible, opt for an active move, such as walking or cycling.

  • Use shared bikes or shared scooters to move around the city. This is usually easier than by car.

  • For longer distances, opt for public transport as much as possible. As a whole, this results in 200,000 tons of CO 2 less emissions annually. For the same route you will emit 75% less CO 2 than when you take the car.

  • Consider whether a private car is necessary. Car sharing can be a good alternative.

  • If possible, when purchasing a new car, opt for a hybrid or even 100% electric model. A petrol car is also better than a diesel car. LPG is somewhere in between.

For local authorities:

  • Provide shared bicycles, shared scooters or car sharing.
  • Aim for efficient and accessible public transport.
  • Provide charging points for electric cars.
  • Provide (free) bicycle parking facilities.
  • Improve traffic flow for cyclists.
  • Provide safe, comfortable cycling and walking paths.
  • Organize public awareness campaigns.
