The second objective of Flanders' 2030 air policy plan stipulates that the vehicle fleet will be made greener and that the city centers should be low-emission. To achieve this, interim milestones have been drawn up.
From 2025, the operation in urban environments will only take place with hybrid, electric or hydrogen buses, with only emission-free driving in the city centres.
- Since October 2019, the transport company De Lijn may only consider zero-emission buses in its purchasing procedures.
- From 2025, only hybrid, electric or hydrogen buses will be allowed to drive in urban environments, and only zero-emission buses in city centers.
- From 2025, distribution in city centers will only take place with hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles, in city centers only with zero-emission vehicles.
