Apply the ecoscore

You tackle the following challenges:

How do I encourage sustainable travel

That's how you do it

Traffic is responsible for about 60% of NO x emissions in Flanders. In addition, they emit many other harmful substances. In order to improve the air quality locally, environmentally friendly vehicles must be used. In order to be able to compare the environmental friendliness of cars regardless of the fuel, the 3 regions developed the ecoscore together with VITO and the VUB. In this way, when purchasing a car, you can consciously choose an environmentally friendly vehicle.
The ecoscore is a score between 0 and 100. The higher the score, the more environmentally friendly the vehicle. When calculating the ecoscore, various environmental aspects are taken into account, such as:

  • greenhouse effect
  • air quality (health effects & effects on ecosystems)
  • noise pollution.

The ecoscore has a well-to-wheel approach. Both exhaust emissions and emissions from production and distribution of the fuel are taken into account.

Tips

  • On www.ecoscore.be you will find an overview of the ecoscore of all passenger cars and vans available on the Belgian market. Handy if you are planning to buy a new car.
  • You can also calculate the ecoscore of a car yourself with a simple tool.
  • With the chassis tool you can find out the ecoscore based on the chassis number of a car. This tool is also available on www.ecoscore.be
  • The FleetTool, also available on www.ecoscore.be , is a fleet management tool that displays the most important environmental statistics (ecoscore, CO2 emissions, kilometers driven) at the level of a vehicle as well as the entire fleet. It is a very user-friendly tool for fleet managers of local authorities and companies.
