Ensure sensible placement of bus stops
Do not provide bus stops right in front of the entrance of a publicly accessible place such as a school gate. To reduce exposure to emissions from idling and accelerating buses, plan the bus stop downwind.
You tackle the following challenges:
That's how you do it
A sensible placement of a bus stop ensures that more people use public transport and less use the car in the first place.
Note the distance between, for example, the school entrance and bus stop: if it is too large, the use of public transport will be discouraged and this will lead to more car use. The route between the bus stop and the school gate must also be pedestrian-friendly.
As a resident, parent or teacher, you can contribute to a proper location of the bus stop by contacting your municipality and/or transport company about this.
